Found Footage clips

Here's a compilation of the found footage style scene I filmed last week...
I'm not sure whether I'm happy with the angle that Sophie is holding the camera.

Small Clip From Trailer

I filmed these clips of Sophie last weekend and I've edited them together in a similar way that I'd edit the real thing, to practice my editing style for the real thing. I used windows movie maker to do this.

Clips from Friday

I've put together all of the clips I got from Friday the 22nd of January...
I am aware that there isn't really a wide range of locations but that is because we were just filming in Tasha's bedroom.

What I Learnt From My Institutions Research

From my institutions research I have learnt that popular, mainstream production companies don't often release small-budget horror films as they make less profit that blockbusters.

Because of this I have decided to create a specifically horror production company for my own trailer as my film would not be a high budget film and it has a less popular cast than mainstream blockbusters.

What I Learnt From My Directorial Research

Things that I found in my research that I'm going to take into my own filming:

  1. Wes Craven's 'break the fourth-wall' style- I'm using intertextuality which links my characters to those within other horror films.
  2. I have already used a similar style to Alfred Hitchcock in that I have created intense storyboards for my trailer.

Did I Meet My Targets 22nd January

My targets for this week were to research into horror director's style and institutions, I have done both of these things. This has helped me to develop my own filming style and think about including some of the things used by these directors into my own horror film.

My institutions research has helped me to decide that I am going to create my own horror production company, rather than using an existing, popular production company to release my film.

Filming Schedule 22/1

Famous Horror Directors: Alfred Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock (1899- 1980) was an English director and producer, nicknamed 'The Master of Suspense' due to his work in the psychological- thriller genre.

Hitchcock, Alfred 02.jpg
Hitchcock stated that he planned his director down to every last detail, his scripts and storyboards were so intricate that he 'didn't even need to look through the viewfinder' of the cameras because he knew what it should look like.
He didn't direct/write many horror films but his work on Pyscho made him often be referred to a one of the best.

Famous Horror Directors: Wes Craven

Wes Craven (1939-2015) was a film director/producer,well-known for his work with horror films, especially slasher films.

His style tended to 'break the fourth-wall' in the sense that he would add a lot of real elements to his fiction horror. An example of this is in an instalment of the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, Wes Craven's New Nightmare as he had actress, Heather Langenkamp play herself as she is haunted by the villain of the first instalment which she starred in. At one point in the film, the audience sees on Wes Craven's word processor a script he has written, which includes the exact conversation he just had with Heather — as if the script was being written live. In Scream, the characters frequently reference situations similar to theirs from other horror films.

He starred in Cameo roles in all of the Scream films.

His horror films are now regarded by many people as classics:

Horror Flm Institutions

I've found that there are production companies who specialise in horror films because of their generally low-budget and high profit.

Famous Horror Directors

I'm going to start looking at directors known for their horror films so I can get a better idea of the technicalities on filming style.

Targets For This Week 18th January

My targets for this week are to

  • Research into famous horror director's style and institutions for horror films.

Filming Recap

I was going to get the majority of the shots I needed with Sophie and/or James at Tasha's house on Friday the 15th, unfortunately this date didn't work well for everyone as they were busy with their own school work. Also the weather was an issue as it started to snow and was icy which made it difficult for Tasha to drive to her house. As we only had an hour I knew that it was best to re-schedule.

But, I did manage to get the scene with just Sophie at our house and I'll post the raw footage from that tomorrow.

We have rescheduled the rest for Friday the 22nd.

Did I Meet My Targets 15th January

A few weeks ago I set myself some targets...

  • Take more images for the poster/ the magazine
  • Create a shopping list for props and get these props
I took some more images this week and also I have now got all of my props so I can start filming.

Tuesday 12 January 2016

Poster Images 2

I retook all of my poster images  on my Canon camera because it's much better quality. I asked Sophie and James to both wear what they wore at the last photo-shoot because I thought that their outfits worked well with their characters. Because I'm able to zoom in very far on my canon whilst still having a good quality picture, I took very close up pictures of their eyes which I wasn't able to do last time because it wouldn't focus on my phone.

The Music Box

I have been doing some resesarch into music boxes and looking online for the one I want.

I've been looking on eBay for a music box but I could only find children's music boxes like this.. which is not what I want

So I refined my search to 'adult music boxes' but I still couldn't find one I liked as a lot of them looked too modern, were too small or were really expensive.

I ended up looking round my house for any jewellery boxes that I liked the look of and I found one that my mum said I could use which looks perfect.
