Genres of Films

I'm going to do some detailed research into lots of different genres of films and find examples of each so that I can compare what I'd like my film to be like, to them.





  • Romantic: Cliche love stories, true love- maybe ends in disaster: The Notebook, The Fault in Our Stars, The Vow

  • Rom-Com: Love stories- usually unexpected love: Just Go With It, Friends With Benefits
  • Sci- Fi: Science Fiction, maybe in outer space, distopian universe: Star Wars, The Hunger Games
  • Action: Little comedy, drama: The Maze Runner, Superhero Films

  • Drama: Touching themes, death, true stories maybe: The Lovely Bones, My Sister's Keeper

  • Thriller: Lots of suspense and tension, plot twists: Gone Girl

  • Horror: The Exorcist, Paranormal Activity

  • Comedy:  Ted, The Inbetweeners

  • Chick-Flick: Usually suited to teenage girls: Clueless, Mean Girls

  • Animated/ Kids: Shrek, Toy Story
